Hannah & Henrik’s Wedding at Prairiewood Retreat & Reserve

8.1.22

Congratulations to Hannah and Henrik. This lovely couple got married on June 18th, 2022 at Prairiewood Retreat & Preserve. Prairiewood Retreat & Reserve is located in the native tallgrass prairie of the Flint Hills and a mile west of Manhattan, KS. The immense beauty and abundance of amenities and features make it the premier wedding destination in Kansas.

Prairiewood Retreat & Reserve

The venue offers three lodging options. Hannah & Henrik had an outdoor ceremony and reception at the Blue Sage Barn. The renovated equestrian facility is the perfect venue for couples who love a large and open floor plan. The space is highly versatile and can be customized and decorated to meet the specific requests of couples. Slide barn doors accent the decorative string lights visible all around the room. The venue can house 200+ guests and has a covered veranda and patio area, beverage station, and bar. The venue also offers all-year heating/air conditioning, Wi-Fi access, and a spectacular sound system.

Hannah & Henrik’s Planning Process

Hannah and Henrik started their wedding planning during the summer of 2020. They wanted to have a summer wedding on a 2022 date, so they knew they had plenty of time to gather ideas. They would describe their wedding planning process as low stress. Having two years to plan made the process easier, and they decided to make all of their big decisions early. This was done so that they could have plenty of time to focus on the fine details.

They decided to bundle Complete’s services, booking a Complete Weddings + Events Kansas wedding DJ, Photographer, and a Day of Coordinator. They cited their wedding day of coordinator, Madi, as very helpful when planning their day. She helped tie all of their ideas and plans together to create a very smooth and wonderful party.

Getting Ready at Prairiewood

Hannah’s hair and makeup were done by Amaryca from Platinum and Company. We can’t help but admire Hannah’s gorgeous dress she received from Bridal Gallery in her home in Sioux Falls, SD. Her bridesmaids all picked their dresses from different shops. Hannah wanted them to wear something they felt most comfortable with while sticking to their blue theme. Henrik and the groomsmen did the same.

They decided to rent their flowers from Something Borrowed Blooms. Hannah had the wedding rings of her grandparents tied into her bouquet and was very happy with the way they turned out and the quality of how they were photographed. She absolutely loved her Kansas wedding photographer Cale, and thought he did a fantastic job.

First Look

The couple decided to do a first look before their wedding ceremony. They shared a special moment together that was both personal and unique. Before the ceremony, the couple took pictures with their family and the wedding party. Hannah also helped Henrik apply some finishing touches to his suit.

Outdoor Wedding Ceremony

Hannah & Henrik had their 5:00 p.m. ceremony in the prairie meadow, which was perfect for a summer wedding. Smiles were on everyone’s faces as friends and family made their way to their seats. Henrik couldn’t keep his eyes off Hannah as she walked down the aisle. The couple shared their vows, exchanged rings, and closed their ceremony with a heartfelt kiss.

Wedding Reception

Guests relaxed during cocktail hour, catching up and enjoying hors d’oeuvres. The reception area was decorated by All About You Rentals and began at 6:30 p.m. Guests enjoyed a buffet meal, catered by Nico’s Little Italy. Hannah said that weeks after her wedding, people were still letting her know how delicious their food was. The reception also included other treats such as pretzels and cotton candy made on-site by Kings Cotton Candy. Hannah and Henrik cut their beautiful wedding cake made by Nothing Bundt Cakes. The evening was spent dancing. Hannah and Henrik said that their Kansas wedding DJ, Andrew, was the absolute best DJ. He kept everyone on the dance floor all evening long.

Hannah says that her favorite part of her day was having all of her and Henrik’s family and friends, even those from Germany, together for the first time in three years. She was so happy with how her and Henrik’s day turned out and very glad she used Complete to simplify and streamline the entire process.
