How would you describe your personality?
If I had to describe myself with one word I’d probably have to say that “curious” fits me best. I’m always looking for something new to learn, or obsessing over one of the several hobbies (usually tech-related) that I dabble in when the others get too frustrating. In between those, I tend to be pretty laid back (ie: “Lazy”) and open to new ideas when it comes to most things! However, if you get me talking about anything related to science or technology, you might regret asking “How’s that thing work?”.
What makes you unique as a DJ?
I think my strength as both a DJ and musician is my ability to improvise and quickly adapt to unexpected challenges.
The inevitable moment when 200 emotional (and often inebriated) people end up in the same room as their relatives is bound to stir some chaos, and I take pride in knowing that in the case of a plan being undone I am able to keep things moving smoothly.
This trait, combined with years of solo performing as a guitarist, also makes me good at reading a crowd and recognizing when things need to be mixed up!
Why do you enjoy working at Complete Weddings + Events?
Music has always been one of the biggest influences in my life. I’ve performed for fun and pay as a solo guitarist for ten years, however, I had never stepped into the role of a DJ until I was hired by Complete. The role was a perfect fit, and has served to deepen my love for all things musical by opening new creative doors for me to explore.
Beyond that, the opportunity to play a central role in the organization of a day they have waited a lifetime building toward is incredibly humbling. There’s nothing quite like seeing an entire family come together and experience a milestone celebration like a wedding: you literally are witnessing a part of that family’s history!
What is the best part about DJing at weddings?
The people! Having the opportunity to meet and interact with so many different people in one night is always what leaves me wanting more. Whether it’s taking requests, watching two families bond through music, or executing a flawless 3 hour setlist, the entire experience is ultimately about the people I’m pointing the speakers at!
What is your #1 goal at an event?
My goal is to make every dance a cherished memory for the rest of your life. I want every guest to leave having had an amazing time.
