Jaz

As a born and raised Nebraskan, I’ve always been keen on living The Good Life. I grew up in Lincoln with my parents, a younger brother, and our lazy Basset Hound. I enjoy spending time outdoors in the summer and cozying up with video games in the winter. An unabashed nerd, I enjoy Dungeons and Dragons, Star Wars and debating about which comic hero would win in a fight. I love watching the Huskers, playing with my puppy, and cooking with my wife when we’re not discussing our favorite films.

Why did you decide to become a videographer?

I didn’t really decide to become a videographer. Ever since I picked up a camera in middle school and started making short home movies with my friends I felt like it was a calling. Wedding videography has become one of my favorite ways to spend a weekend because of how creative you can be while also going to a great party.

What is your favorite memory from a wedding you've shot?

My favorite event memory has to be the time that the caterer forgot they were supposed to be catering the event. I know, that sounds like a horror story, but once we realized what happened we started calling every pizza place in the area. Within 2 hours we had 80 pizzas show up from 3 separate restaurants. You’ve never seen such a well-dressed group get so excited for pizza. The photographer and I kept making sure the bride was alright (she handled it like a champ) and the forgetful caterer paid for the whole meal. By the end of the night were all smiling, dancing and eating well.

What is your favorite thing about being a videographer?

My favorite thing about being a videographer is the candid nature of my work. Photographers will capture still moments and amazing portraits, but nothing beats the best man taking a shot and cheesing right into my lens, or watching the flower girl carefully place each petal on the aisle in real time. There are some moments that live best in motion and I get to be the one to capture it. Also, wedding food is the best.

What makes you and your work unique?

My motto is that I’ll be your Best Friend for a day. I have a personality that meshes well with any group that I spend the day with, and within moments of meeting it often feels like I’m another member of the wedding party. I could talk about the quality of my videography skills or the way I can often find the best angle for any moment, but that isn’t what people remember from the day. It’s the fun we had, the way we worked together and the positive energy that I bring to the party.

What is your favorite part of a wedding day?

My favorite part of the wedding day is THAT moment. You know the one. It’s different every time, but it’s always THE moment. When dad starts crying seeing his little girl in her wedding dress for the first time. It’s when the unassuming best man delivers the speech that leaves the room speechless. It’s when the sun hits the couple just right at sunset and everything crystalizes into one perfect moment. When real life starts to feel like the movie. It happens every time and when I feel it, I know the couple is feeling it too and it thrills me that I get to be a part of it.

What is a fun fact that not many people know about you?

A fun fact about me is that I can sort of juggle. Oh and I once caught a punt return in high school a long snapper. I also won an award for best commercial produced in Nebraska. I suppose that’s 3 fun facts.
