Jess

Hi, I’m Jess McGovern!

I’ve had a camera in my hands since high school, but I officially launched my photography business in 2019. For me, photography has always been about more than creating beautiful images… it’s about preserving the real, unscripted moments that tell your story. I love capturing authentic emotion, meaningful connections, and the incredible beauty that exists in the world when people simply get to be themselves.

Before becoming a full-time wedding photographer, I worked as a 911 dispatcher for the Lincoln Police Department. For years, I helped people through some of the hardest moments of their lives. Today, I have the incredible privilege of documenting one of the happiest days they’ll ever experience. That perspective has shaped not only who I am as a photographer, but who I am as a person. After witnessing so much heartache, there is nothing more fulfilling than spending my days surrounded by love, laughter, and hope. Holding my camera and preserving those moments fills my heart in a way I can’t fully put into words.

When I’m not photographing weddings, I’m in the beautiful chaos of raising my family. I’m a mom to two amazing kids and a bonus mom to three more, with ages ranging from toddlers to teenagers. Life at home keeps me on my toes, so wedding days feel like my happy place. I thrive under pressure, stay calm when timelines shift, and genuinely love every minute of celebrating alongside my couples. My goal is to help you feel comfortable, cared for, and fully present so you can soak in every moment while I preserve the memories you’ll cherish for a lifetime.

Why did you become a photographer?

Photography fills my heart with joy. There is something incredibly special about preserving moments that can never be recreated. I love creating images that allow people to relive the emotions of one of the best days of their lives for years to come.

What is your favorite memory for a wedding you've shot?

I could never choose just one. Every wedding is unique, and every couple has a story worth celebrating. My favorite part is simply getting a front-row seat to so much love and happiness. It’s an honor that I never take for granted.

What is your favorite thing about being a photographer?

Creating art while preserving authentic emotion. Beautiful portraits are wonderful, but the genuine laughs, happy tears, quiet glances, and heartfelt embraces are the moments that become priceless over time.

What makes you or your work unique?

My background as a 911 dispatcher gave me a perspective that I carry into every wedding day. I’ve seen people on some of the darkest days of their lives, so I never lose sight of how precious moments like these truly are. I bring a calm, reassuring presence, help couples feel at ease, and know how to find joy even when the unexpected happens. I believe that sense of peace and genuine happiness shines through in my images.

What is your favorite part of a wedding day?

Without a doubt, it’s the moment the couple sees each other. Whether it’s the bride walking down the aisle or a private first look, there’s something magical about those first few seconds. Time seems to stand still, and you can feel the love radiating between them. Those quiet but incredibly powerful moments are my favorite to capture.

What is a fun fact about you?

I studied photography at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts! Even after years behind the camera, I’m still passionate about learning, growing, and finding new ways to tell each couple’s story.
