Today, I’m giving tips for planning a fun reception. More than ever, folks are looking for fun wedding reception ideas.
Today’s “Icebreakers” are used to gain crowd engagement. They make the evening much more enjoyable. Here are a few ways and tips for planning a fun wedding reception in the South Florida area.
Tips for Planning a Fun Wedding Reception
Try the Shoe Game
The bride and groom sit in two chairs that are back to back.
The bride and groom remove their shoes and exchange one so that they are both holding one of each shoe.
During the game, the MC asks a series of questions and the answer is either “the bride” or “the groom.” The bride and groom answer by holding up the shoe of the correct answer. For instance, if the question was “Who is the best cook” they will hold up the shoe of the person they think is the best cook.
To keep “The Shoe Game” interesting and fun, and in the spirit of being in Florida, we like to use a pair of “Bride and Groom” flip flops!
What about a Dance Off
There are 2 ways of doing this. You have your traditional circle and 1 or 2 people go in the circle to show off their best moves. The best way to ensure somebody goes in the circle, I like to use a “magic” pair of sunglasses. Whoever has the sunglasses must “bust a move”. When they’re done they give the sunglasses to somebody else who then goes in the circle and does their thing. Keep this process going for as long as people are dancing.
The other way to have a “dance-off” is to do a “soul train line”. You put people in parallel lines on the dance floor. People at the front of the line go in the middle and do their best dance moves as they travel to the end of the line. When they reach the end, the next 2, at the front of the line are up.
You could Rock the reception
About halfway through the father/daughter or mother/son dance, have your DJ make the song skip and go into “You can’t touch this” by MC Hammer or do the Carlton or another memorable dance.
Think about Photo Booth
A Photo Booth is always a fun way to keep your guests entertained, and you get some great photos of your guests enjoying themselves! If you do an open booth, guests that are not partaking in the picture will be entertained.
Don’t forget about a Sparkler Exit
When including your guests in your exit photo opt, sparkles are a fun way for everyone to easily be involved!
