Michael and Carolina’s Wedding
How we met
We met in college back in January 2017, on a hiking trip with our on-campus group, the Student Life Cinema. The hike required partners, and since we were the last two individuals left, we partnered up and started hitting it off immediately.
Our First Date
It was March 17, 2017, during Spring Break. We went mini-golfing and ate Gelato. This is also where we had our first kiss.

How long we’ve been engaged
We’ve been engaged since February 1, 2020. Tell your engagement story: From talking about it with Carolina, I knew that she didn’t want the proposal to be too public or surrounded by too many strangers. So my mom and I worked together to formulate a plan in which we set up a fake “Welcome back to the neighborhood” event for my family in the neighborhood where my parents and I lived for 15 years.
At this event were my parents, Carolina’s parents, a couple of our neighbors, Andrea, Diksha, and Colleen Sanclemente, who I knew Carolina wanted for our wedding photographer. Carolina and I were the last ones to arrive, and in front of both of our parents and close friends, I got down on one knee and formally invited Carolina to join the Shelfer family and be my wife. After a stunned pause, she said yes through tears.
Why we choose the venue
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton was the Church where Michael grew up since he was three years old.

Other important information
The Bishop celebrating this wedding, Father Raul Biord Castillo, is from Venezuela and is also Carolina’s godfather. The Priest co-celebrating this occasion, Father Michael Kelly, has celebrated dozens of weddings in this Church with Michael at his side as an altar server.
