How To Prepare For A Rainy Day Wedding

9.20.24

Seeing your partner under the clear blue sky is no less than a dream. As majestic as it sounds, sometimes things do not go according to plan, especially with unpredictable Florida weather. If you are planning any part of your special day to be held outdoors, there are a few things you want to keep in mind in case of unruly weather. Here are some ways that would help you to prepare for a rainy wedding day so you don’t have to postpone as Mother Nature doesn’t want that.

An Indoor Backup Space

Having a Plan B can save the day. Make sure that the venue you are selecting also has an indoor space that can be utilized for any unexpected plans. An indoor space at the venue is one of the most convenient ways to accommodate and redirect your guests for your wedding. Make sure if you book any activities outside, that the venue also reserves a backup indoor space for that day as well. Furthermore, coordinate with your suppliers for a backup plan so that even if it rains, alternative arrangements can be made if needed.

Clear Tent

Rain is just a little hiccup, but renting a clear tent can make it a major highlight of the day. If your venue does not have an indoor space you can relocate to, have a clear tent rental on standby. Not only is the clear tent the most elegant way to arrange an outdoor setup in the rainy season, but it also uplifts the environment. The tent allows you to have an unobstructed view of the dreamy skies, plus the ambient, as well as the magical rhythmic sound of the raindrops, which is no less mesmerizing than a live orchestra. You can also arrange portable heaters to make the guests feel comfortable in the chilly weather.

Make sure that all of your vendors and their equipment can be accommodated under the tent. You don’t want to have any equipment get damaged due to the rain.

Have Umbrellas Ready

Although this seems like a very basic requirement, it is of vital importance. Having standby umbrellas already arranged at the venue would allow you and the guests to save themselves from the rain at short notice. Therefore, you must have an adequate number of umbrellas available on the spot in accordance with the number of guests that are coming. Displaying the umbrellas in a decorative fashion can also create a unique and eye-catching feature. By being proactive, you can keep everyone comfortable and prepared for unexpected showers.

Also consider having towels to dry off wet chairs or surfaces, and baskets filled with blankets or shawls to keep guests warm.

Umbrellas can also be used as a unique photo opportunity! Consult with your photographer about what shots can be done to incorporate them into your photos.

Informing the Vendors

Notifying the vendors that you are going for plan B is of equal importance. While some vendors may ask for a 1–2-day notice, most vendors provide alternate arrangements in just a few hours. Therefore, ask your vendors about their requirements that you can make a timely call for Plan B. Make sure you clearly understand each vendor’s plan of action if you must resort to Plan B.

Also, keep in mind that rainy weather may slightly affect your wedding day timeline. Whether it’s allowing extra time for travel and parking, adjusting the photography schedule, or coordinating indoor activities, be prepared to make adjustments as needed. Discuss the revised timeline with your wedding planner and vendors to ensure a seamless flow of events despite any weather challenges.

Wedding Insurance

Last but not least, consider having wedding insurance. Wedding insurance typically covers expenses such as lost deposits, damages to the wedding venue, and cancellation fees. This not only protects you from any sort of financial loss but also brings you at peace since you don’t have to worry about postponing or canceling as it is taken care of. Review different wedding insurance policies and consult with your wedding planner or insurance agent to determine the best coverage for your specific needs. Investing in wedding insurance can provide a safety net and alleviate stress, allowing you to enjoy your special day, rain or shine.

A rainy-day wedding doesn’t have to dampen your spirits. By preparing an adequate back up plan and embracing the rain, you can turn an unforeseen circumstance into a unique and unforgettable celebration. Drink up, have a dance in the rain, and get adorable pictures!
