DJ Norman

I would describe my DJ personality as outgoing and entertaining. My DJ style is based on having a keen eye for reading the crowd. I follow the vibe of the crowd and my goal is always to keep that vibe going. 

I have so many favourite DJ memories; playing at so many different venues that I grew up going to from Casa Loma and Ontario Place to Young/Dundas Square and the Budweiser Stage. There’s just something so surreal about playing in these places many years later when you use to go there and watch others play when you were a kid. 

I would say I have many achievements as a DJ from opening for many headlining musicians and bands to recently being hired to play a DJ in an episode of an upcoming Amazon Prime original tv show. 

I believe what makes me unique as a DJ is having grown up in Brampton (one of the most multicultural and diverse cities in the Country). Starting my career playing at bars and pubs in Brampton and getting requests for and mixing multiple genres of music for all different cultures makes it easy for me to adapt to the needs of any Wedding or event. Further having been grown up in a home where music was always playing and again such a diverse range of music everything from my dad dancing the Macarena to my mom jamming Toni Braxton and Whitney Houston allowed me to have a diverse knowledge of music from a young age.

For me the entire night at a Wedding or event is important and any chance I have the opportunity to get people on the dance floor is my favourite part. However I also enjoy ensuring the event runs smoothly as planned, whether that be being the MC or organizing bands, performers and dancers for the event. Overall making the night a memorable one is my favourite part! 

It’s hard to pick one favourite party song since there are so many that I not only love to play but also enjoy listening to time and time again. Everything from classics like “Dancing Queen”, “Love Shack”, the “Macarena” and “Cha Cha Slide” (if the crowd is feeling it) to Ushers “Yeah” to “Uptown Funk” and even current hits like “Danza Kudro” to “Bar Song – Tipsy”. The list goes on and on there’s just so many great songs to pick from, and being a DJ, I get to mix them all! 

I became a DJ to share my love of music with as many people as I can. It makes me happy watching people dance and vibe to the music I’m mixing. I have had people come to me in recent years and tell me about how they went on a date at bar or club where I was DJing years before and now they are getting married and they were so thankful for me playing a song request that they attribute to making their first date perfect. Such a great feeling that you can make such a huge difference in someone’s night and possibly life through the music you play. That alone makes being a DJ so rewarding. 

I would say one fun fact that most people don’t know about me, unless they knew me since I was a young child, is that I was a childhood actor. While I never got a major lead role before my parents got me out of it. I did play a Stand-in for one of the main characters in a 90s thriller that was in theatres and also played as an extra in dozens of blockbuster films including notably being on the “bus scene” in Adam Sandlers “Billy Maddison”. I also did some commercials and was even in modelling and runway shows as a child. I think this also helped me to be able to adapt in my role as a DJ many years later.
