Slow Jams
The ’90s and ’00s were arguably the golden eras of slow jams! Everything from Mary J Blige to Boys II Men hit. You can’t go over the top with slow jams and should use them sparingly as they’re great for slowing things down for a moment but shouldn’t set the tone for the entire wedding. The mid-2000s were absolutely dominated by the pop-punk genre. It was an amazing combination of punk rock that began in the ’90s but with a bit more of an upbeat feel so that you could groove to it a little! Bands like The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Green Day, and Fall Out Boy killed it in this space and their songs are still stuck in our heads to this day. However, playing this genre at a wedding is a bit like playing with fire.
These songs can absolutely pack the dance floor and provide a welcome change of pace but overplaying this genre or playing the wrong songs that guests aren’t familiar with can also clear the dance floor out altogether. These decades felt like this genre’s revolution when it really found its voice and it simultaneously gave us some of the absolute best dance songs of all time!
