Northern Virginia Wedding Venues with Outdoor Ceremony Space

If you’re planning a wedding in Northern Virginia, you already know the venue options are wide-ranging. Outdoor ceremonies are popular for a reason. They feel natural, relaxed, and a little less formal than traditional ballrooms. Here are three DMV wedding venues with outdoor ceremony spaces to consider.

What to Look for in an Outdoor Ceremony Venue

Outdoor spaces should feel like part of the venue’s design. Outdoor ceremonies work best when the venue supports them fully. The setting should already feel ready for a wedding. Look for:

  • A defined ceremony location
  • Natural scenery without needing heavy decor
  • Easy guest access, including an easy transition to indoor areas
  • A solidified indoor backup option in case of weather
  • How music and sound is handled 4

Finding the Right Venue in the DMV area

Finding the right venue in Northern Virginia/the DMV starts with understanding how you want your day to flow.

  • Do you picture your ceremony onsite or at a separate location like a church?
  • Will your guest list include everyone or just close family and friends?

These decisions shape what kind of space will work best for you. Think about where your wedding party will stand during the ceremony. Some couples want them beside them, while others prefer a more intimate setup. For a quick overview of venues in the DMV area and their features, check out our venue site here. In the meantime, here are some wonderful places with amazing outdoor spaces:

Goodstone Inn. – Middleburg, VA

Goodstone Inn is a legend in Middleburg. As with most property in this area, the history is intriguing. But much more than that, the care that has been taken to elevate this venue to the quintessential property for your wedding is impressive! Goodstone is inclusive too, and proud to house weddings of all kinds! Look at the examples of the outdoor space and tell me you’re not blown away!

Sweeney Barn – Manassas, VA

We’ve toured Sweeney Barn, met with the staff, and had the honor of providing services there. A barn isn’t everyone’s thing, but you can’t help but change your mind when you see the features of Sweeney Barn and see the outdoor space. Check out the amazing video footage and photos they have on their site and you will see this isn’t your average barn venue. It’s an escape.

Rockwood Manor in Montgomery County, MD

Check out this video of the grounds that highlights all the great features of Rockwood Manor. Have I mentioned (I have; about a million times) that Rockwood is part of Montgomery Parks? One of the many benefits of having a wedding at a property that’s part of the local parks system is the outstanding affordability of going with this option. This leaves your budget a little more stretchable for the services you normally have to put at the bottom of your list- like a photo booth, or a videographer or a coordinator. Plus- Rockwood is a resort. If you want to extend your big day to a big weekend with family/friends/only your wedding party they can house you!

The photos shown here were taken by Kelly, one of our photographers. Our DJ, Richard (DJ Prof.) was there the entire day for ceremony music, cocktail hour, and the reception. It was a blast! If you like being surrounded by nature when you say those vows, seriously consider Rockwood.
