I’ve been shooting for ten years with about half of that being wedding experience.
I decided to become a photographer (amongst other things – currently working on an MBA also!) because I enjoy it, I’m good at it, and I think it’s important. One of my very favorite quotes by Minor White puts it really well – “A very receptive state of mind…not unlike a sheet of film itself – seemingly inert, yet so sensitive that a fraction of a second’s exposure conceives a life in it.” Photography has a unique ability to immortalize and capture a slice of a moment into a little capsule or a “fraction of a second” in a way that no other medium except for maybe videography really can. It’s magic.
What’s your favorite memory from an event you’ve worked?
Every wedding is unique so it’s hard to pick a favorite memory but recently at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, CO I had a couple hold an anniversary dance for their guests where the DJ called for all married couples to join on the dance floor and then sit down as he called out anniversary length milestones. I had seen it before and it’s always cute. The DJ calls out a year, five years, ten. Couples sit down. Fifteen, twenty, twenty-five. The floor thins out. Thirty, thirty-five, fourty… two couples remain. “Forty five?!” the DJ gasps. Everyone starts clapping as the second to last couple exits the dance floor. He finally asks the last couple left how long they’d been together… 53 years.
How would you describe your photography style?
Vivid, balanced, minimal, timeless.
What venue has been your favorite to shoot at?
All venues are beautiful in their own right but I have a soft spot for historic structures like the Highlands Ranch Mansion, Mount Vernon Canyon Club, and Willow Ridge Manor.
