Drone Wedding Shots

9.8.22

As you are thinking about booking a drone to capture shots on your wedding day? Here are a few things you should think about.

Designate Time for Drone Shots

Drones can be excellent for getting different angles and pictures of your wedding day.  They can be used for group shots and showing off your venue. Make sure you designate time for these shots. It takes about 30 minutes for a drone to take off and adjust in the air before they are ready to snap photos to ensure no memories are not captured. To help get the best drone shots, designate the time during your wedding day that these photos and videos can be taken.

Is your Venue FAA Approved?

When you book drone photography or videography, you need to make sure that the venue is FAA approved.  The FAA has strict rules and regulations in place for the use of drones. One of those rules is no-fly zones. In the Spokane area, we have no-fly zones and controlled Airspace. Most of the Spokane/valley venues need ‘airspace authorization’. Keep that in mind when you are booking drone photography or videography for your wedding.

Do Not Use a Drone During the Ceremony

Using a drone during your ceremony is a huge misconception. You want the footage from your ceremony in its entirety. Not only would the drone operator have to get it in place before the ceremony starts. It is a huge distraction for your guests. Having the drone fly above your head is not something you want when everybody is supposed to be paying attention to you. It is also very dangerous. There is a chance that getting those shots requires the drone to get closer to your loved ones. Don’t risk their safety to get that shot.

Check the weather!!

Although drones are made very sturdy these days, they are still electronics. That is why it is so important to check the weather in the days leading up to your wedding day. Flying in weather such as rain, snow, & high winds could damage equipment. That means that no flying drones in inclement weather. You will have to talk with the photographer/videographer about your other options.
