The Plan
Adam, a photographer by trade, knew that a day trip to Lutsen would not be suspicious for Nicole if they were posing for a “photographer’s portfolio” – the perfect reason to have her nails, hair, and makeup on point to go hiking. Next, he reached out to Complete Weddings + Events for a photographer to go with them to make this an experience to remember. A good friend from Thurber Jewlers helped him obtain the ideal ring with tons of meaning. Now it was time to execute the plan.
Proposal tip: Remember, when planning a surprise proposal, you want everything to go smoothly. Coming up with a believable scenario is important.
The Proposal
On the morning of June 19th, the three of them started on their journey to Oberg trail it was only 3 Hours and 59 minutes by car: 247 miles and 3 pitstops away. This trail was a three-mile-long moderate hike with 7 outlooks, it offers fantastic views of mountains and Lake Superior. Perfect for “building a portfolio.” Oberg did not disappoint; Adam described the seventh look-out as “a scene straight out of The Land Before Time.”
Stopping for photo-ops along the way, Nicole had no idea what was about to happen. Our photographer lined up the scene, telling Nicole to look into the distance, and then seamlessly told Adam to put his hands in his pockets. That was his cue to do what he had came here to do!
The Celebration
When Adam and Nicole met, Adam knew she was one of a kind and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Adam knew he had to get creative with how to ask her father if he could have her hand in marriage. Nicole is originally from Sweden and most of her family does not live in the United States.
He sent a video message and patiently waited for a response. After nearly 24 hours of sweating, Adam got her father’s permission! Once her father’s blessing was secured, Adam went to work on the perfect ring and plan on how to ask Nicole to marry him.
