First Dance Alternatives Couples Love in Columbus

First Dance Alternatives Couples Love in Columbus

Despite how popular first dances are at Columbus weddings, there are still many couples who aren’t exactly the groovy type. As a videographer, I’ve worked with numerous couples over the years, and lots of them have preferred to host activities other than first dances. Everyone has their preferences, but with the amount of first dance alternatives I’ve seen, there are definitely a few that stand out among the crowd!

#1. The Shoe Game

Arguably the most popular on this list, the Shoe Game is a great first-dance alternative to get your wedding guests laughing! The premise is simple; you and your partner sit back-to-back while your DJ asks a series of questions. These are typically light-hearted and random, such as “Who is the better driver?” or “Who made the first move?”

While these questions are being asked, you’ll hold both your own shoe and your partner’s, raising one of them depending on which one of you fits the answer more. I’ve worked with many couples who’ve opted for this over a first dance, and it never fails to make people smile!

Our DJs at Complete Columbus are experienced with this game and always bring a list of questions to ask, but our couples are more than welcome to provide their own, as well.

#2. Table Hopping

By far my favorite first dance alternative, Table Hopping is a great way to socialize with your guests without interfering with the day’s timeline. As much as couples often want to talk with everyone, there’s a lot that takes place at weddings, and usually not enough time to do so. However, carving out a piece of time to chat eliminates this issue, and is something I recommend that every couple consider when planning their wedding.

#3. Group Dance

Like mentioned before, first dances are still quite popular at Columbus weddings, and for good reason. Many couples enjoy swaying to music, just not always with their guests watching. Because of this, hosting a group dance is an excellent way to have the best of both worlds!

The Anniversary Dance, for example, is an incredibly common choice, and usually results in the majority of a couple’s wedding guests joining them on the dance floor. Even if a first dance does take place, I still see this dance held at almost every wedding I’ve been to, and our Complete Columbus DJs are more than familiar with it!

There are countless weddings held in Columbus every year, and each one is a bit different. Some couples love dancing together to their favorite song, while others prefer to step out of the spotlight and into another activity. Fortunately, there are dozens of first dance alternatives to choose from, and Complete Columbus is experienced in making them as fun as they can be!
