What to Wear to a Summer Wedding (As a Guest)
Although fashion certainly isn’t for everyone (myself included), there’s no denying that some events call for specific attire. From corporate meetings to funerals, we’ve all likely had to dress up at some point in our lives. This is especially true with weddings. As a wedding videographer, I’ve rarely seen anyone in clothes less than semi-formal. However, in the heat of summer, this doesn’t exactly sound comfortable.
Fortunately, there are more types of fancy clothes than suits and ties! If you’re a Columbus summer-wedding guest and searching for the perfect outfit, here are some recommendations that will look sharp and keep you cool.
For Men: Golf Tee and Khaki Shorts
This is arguably the best option for men, as it’s not only wedding-appropriate, but feels good and won’t break the bank. Practically every clothes store has golf shirts and shorts, so they aren’t difficult to find, either. Darker colors absorb heat, but they’re usually a better option given that wedding guests aren’t supposed to stand out. Black and navy blue, as well as dark green and purple, work wonders when paired with a pair of brown or white khakis. There’s a solid chance you already own a pair or two!
For Women: Summer Dress
These may not be quite as commonplace as they once were, but a summer dress is a great option for female wedding guests. As mentioned before, darker colors are recommended, so make sure to choose one that doesn’t compete with the bride for attention. Longer dresses are typically preferred (we wanna be modest, right?) but will definitely still keep you cooler than traditional business attire!
Some things never change, and the need to dress formally at weddings is certainly one of them. It’s pretty straightforward, though. Guys, a dark-colored tee and khaki shorts will do just fine. Ladies, a summer dress that blends in with the crowd will work great. Additionally, many couples will provide their guests with suggested attire details, which makes choosing the right outfit even easier!
