What Type of Wedding Cake Should You Choose?
Choosing your wedding cake. Flavor? Colors? Florals? Groom’s cake? Cookie Cake? Cupcakes?
The good news is that there is no wrong choice. Just like all the decisions you make for your wedding day, the most important thing to consider is what you and your fiancé want. Once you land on a vision that feels right for you, you find a budget that works for you, and then you start researching vendors. If you already have a caterer, ask if they offer cakes or dessert set-ups! Some couples skip the cake entirely and do dessert bars or other sweet treats. If they don’t do desserts, they likely can be a great resource when making recommendations. Your venue’s preferred vendor list will always be a trusty place to start as well. Did you attend another wedding and are still dreaming about the cake you ate there? Ask the couple who they used!
Don’t want a whole cake, but still want to have a cake cutting? A “Cut Cake” is for you! Just slice it for the picture, then have it cut and served to family members and/or bridal party, while the rest of the guests get a different plated dessert, or get a chance to visit the dessert table! Another affordable option is a smaller display/cutting cake, with separate white sheet cakes in the kitchen to be cut and brought out for your guests to enjoy. This also allows you to offer more than one flavor if that is something you want.
If you do go the cake route, you will also need to consider getting your own cake-cutting set as well as possibly getting a cake topper. Etsy is a great option for both, and you can get them customized with your names and date! Also, remember to get a box to transport/store your top layer for freezing if that is something you want to do.
