The wedding registry is such a cherry on top of the amazing and fun (but sometimes stressful) wedding cake! On top of being able to plan a wedding and get married you actually get to hop online and shop for things for you and your future spouse. This is your only chance in life to unabashedly ask people to buy you things and it’s actually expected of you! Of course you don’t want to take advantage of this situation but you’re going to want to enjoy the process and ask for things you want. We have a perfect guide for what you should be looking for and what to consider when adding things to your registry.
Things to Consider:
Prioritize Needs
The first thing that should be top of mind is getting your needs taken care of. What do you not have that you know for a fact you’re going to need in the near future? Oftentimes these type of things tend to be pots, pans, dishes, towels, etc. We understand these items are not super flashy, exciting purchases. However, these are things that you might be able to go cheaper on if you don’t mind the quality as much as you will other items on your list. Be careful, you shouldn’t go too cheap. These items will be staples in your life and if they’re not at least decent quality then you’ll be buying new items.
Don’t Overlook Items
One big mistake many couples make with their registry is assuming that they won’t need certain things because they don’t currently use it. The reality is life changes and a big change is coming your way! Make sure you take the advice of those around you. These things might seem unnecessary to you at the current moment. However, after a year of using the same towel you’ll get pretty sick of it. Assume that your attitude will change towards these things and add them to your registry. They might not be as exciting as a new TV but they’re going to seem pretty important over time.
Make Sure Things Last
When shopping for your registry you’re going to want to make sure some prices aren’t obscurely overpriced so that your guests can afford them. However, if you go too cheap you’re going to regret it pretty quickly. Make sure to read reviews on each item. Add items that are just a little more expensive here and there if it’s worth it. Even if you aren’t extremely excited about the item, you won’t be happy throwing it away in three months.
Find the Right Site(s)
There are tons and tons of wedding registry sites these days to pick from. Ranging anywhere from Amazon and Target to more local options like Here Comes the Guide, a Florida wedding registry site. It’s not abnormal to use multiple sites to meet your needs. Certain items can easily be purchased from Amazon while you might want some higher quality products purchased from other websites. On certain websites you can even pool money together until items are purchased! This is a great way to allow yourself to add that TV or even some furniture guilt free of asking people to spend upwards of $1,000.
Have Fun!
Don’t stress about your wedding registry. Otherwise, you’re just adding one more stress to your wedding planning process! This is a fun part of the planning and it should be treated as such. Make sure you use this as a stress relief from the planning process. Or make registry shopping a fun little Saturday morning activity with your fiancé. With the ability to pool people’s contributions together and purchase some larger items you should be able to have a great time shopping for items together. This can take away some of the barriers that don’t allow you to add those larger items you really want! Just grab some coffee (or wine), sit back, and have a blast shopping for yourself!
