Oddly enough, one of the things that stress most couples out more than anything else is worrying about keeping their wedding guests entertained. A large number of couples voice this concern throughout the planning process. Everyoen hopes they’re doing enough to keep their guests engaged. We all want our wedding to be an event that everyone truly enjoys. It can feel like a huge responsibility to ensure that everyone has a great time at your wedding reception. We understand it’s not easy to come up with ideas on your own. After all, you likely have never planned a wedding before. In this article, we’ll cover some ideas on how to keep everyone engaged at your reception!
Top Entertainment Ideas:
Photo Booth
For the past 15 years or so, photo booths have taken over wedding receptions! There was once a time when guests could dance, eat cake, or leave the reception if they had no interest in either of those options. Those days are largely long gone as many ideas on entertaining guests have popped up. The most popular way to keep wedding guests entertained is the photo booth.
Photo booths give your guests something to do during cocktail hour, after dinner, and those moments in between. Plus, you’ll receive a scrapbook with all the prints of your guests that went through the booth. It’s an incredibly fun option when thinking about ways to entertain your guests.
Soft Icebreakers/Games
A great way to keep your wedding guests entertained is to play games that capture everyone’s attention. Activities like the shoe game, survivor, and wedding party feud are ways to get your guests to laugh and understand a little bit more about the couple that they’re there to celebrate. Here’s a quick rundown of how to play each one:
Shoe Game
The shoe game is the most common option of these three and is extremely simple to play. The couple will sit with their backs to each other and take off their shoes. They will then hand one of their shoes to their spouse while keeping one of their own shoes in the other hand. When the DJ asks questions like “who is the better cook in your relationship”, the couple will respond by raising a shoe signifying themselves or their spouse depending on which shoe they raised.
Survivor
Survivor is a game that incorporates the whole wedding party (you can either include the couple in on this or leave them out, it’s completely optional). The DJ will place chairs on the dancefloor and have the wedding party come to sit down on them. The DJ will then give them an object that they have to go find, for example, lip gloss, red shoes, a red pen, etc. The wedding party has to find these objects in the crowd, they can not have them on their person. The DJ will remove chairs during this game and whoever finds the object and returns last is out and this continues until there’s only one person remaining.
Wedding Party Feud
This game is newer and not as familiar to most couples. The DJ will bring the wedding party to the dancefloor, excluding the wedding couple, and ask each side of the wedding party questions about the couple that they have the answers to. At the end, whichever side of the wedding party that ends up with the most points wins.
Think Outside The Box
There are so many ways to bring some interesting and fun ideas to light at your wedding! With so many different types of wedding vendors popping up all around you can get pretty creative. Think food trucks, pop-up bars, you can even hire comedians to entertain your guests. In addition to this, you can make certain areas of your wedding reception feel similar to a tailgate by bringing games like cornhole, bocce ball, croquet, or simply large board games for the yard. These are things that not every guest sees at their typical wedding so it’s sure to entertain them and will likely be a very memorable piece of your wedding reception!
