Glenn Smith didn\u2019t enter the wedding industry with a long-term plan in mind. He was working as a headhunter, recruiting senior-level sales professionals, when he came across the wedding DJ job posting on Monster.com. With nearly ten years of nightclub DJ experience, it felt like a natural fit. \u201cIt felt like a great way to use that background, make some extra money, and meet people,\u201d<\/em> said Glenn Smith, wedding entrepreneur and owner of Complete Weddings + Events Indianapolis.<\/a><\/p>\n

What started as a side opportunity quickly gained traction. Glenn spent years DJing weddings, building his reputation with Complete Weddings + Events St. Louis.<\/p>\n

Finding Meaning in the Work<\/h2>\n

As time went on, the role became more than just a job. It became something he genuinely connected with. \u201cI really enjoyed being part of such an important day in people\u2019s lives.\u201d<\/em> That perspective shifted how he viewed the wedding industry. It was no longer just about performing. It was about being part of something bigger, being part of such important, special days.<\/p>\n

Moving Beyond the DJ Booth<\/h2>\n

After years of working events, Glenn started thinking differently about his future. He wanted to grow beyond the performance side of the business. \u201cI realized I wanted to be more involved on the business side, not just the performance side.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

In 2011, he made that move and stepped into the office full-time. He spent the next few years working across multiple markets, learning how the business operated behind the scenes.<\/p>\n

Glenn was named the top salesperson system-wide for the 2013\u20132014 year. That recognition gave him clarity and confidence in his next step as it opened the door to something bigger. \u201cI felt like I had proven myself and built a strong track record.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Taking the Leap into Ownership<\/h2>\n

In 2015, Glenn purchased the Complete Weddings + Events Indianapolis franchise. It was a shift from contributing to the business to leading it. The early years required focus and consistency. He spent time across multiple markets while building the Indianapolis location. That meant investing in relationships, learning the market, and staying close to the work.<\/p>\n

Eventually, he relocated to Indianapolis to focus on the business full-time. That decision helped create the foundation for long-term growth.<\/p>\n

One of the biggest advantages along the way was being part of a larger system. \u201cIt gives you a built-in network to learn from and lean on when needed.\u201d That support came from corporate leadership, fellow owners, and mentors. Each played a role in helping him grow with more clarity and confidence. Over time, those relationships became even more valuable.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe other owners are like family. We share ideas, support each other, and genuinely want to see everyone succeed.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Being part of a system also meant Glenn didn\u2019t have to start from scratch. “I don\u2019t have to reinvent the wheel.\u201d<\/em> Instead, he could learn from proven strategies and apply them to his own market. That allowed him to move faster while avoiding common mistakes.<\/p>\n
