The most cringe-worthy sentence to any wedding vendor who’s been around is, “my friend is actually DJing my wedding”. Yikes. When a friend DJs your wedding it’s probably a lot cheaper, it may even be free. However, it’s definitely NOT a good idea! DJs are the reason wedding receptions sink or swim, and here are a few reasons you should consider a professional DJ over a cheap one.
First off, a Disc Jockey/Emcee is responsible for running the show all night long. That includes getting things set up like the toasts, cake cutting, first dance, etc. Without a professional DJ, you may end up with someone who’s unexperienced in running a wedding, and maybe even someone who’s altogether unaware that these are even their responsibilities! A professional Disc Jockey and Emcee will know how to run the reception smoothly and will make sure the night you planned goes exactly how you envisioned.
Along with running the order of events for the reception, a DJ should also be able to command a room so that everyone can be on the same page and the night can run the way it was planned to. By not knowing how to take control of a wedding reception, a DJ will likely end up shoveling off the responsibility of running things over to the bride and groom. It is, after all, the bride and groom’s reception. If the DJ who was paid to do it can’t perform, then it’ll kind of have to be them.
Finally, a professional DJ has been through many situations and can power through any unfortunate event. Unfortunately, we still haven’t found a way to make wedding days immune to the accidents and crazy stuff life throws at us. However, we have found a way to look past the crazy, unfortunate things that happen and make weddings fun and special no matter the circumstance. Things happen on wedding days all the time, like medical emergencies, power outages, mix ups with wedding vendors, etc. Having an experienced and professional DJ will give you piece of mind knowing that the night will go on, no matter the circumstance.
Professional wedding DJs are a must for a wedding reception. After all, if you get a bad cake, you have a bad cake, but if you get a bad DJ, you have a bad reception. It’s well worth the money to get a good DJ. Make sure your wedding reception is the best you could imagine it to be!
