Writing your Wedding Vows

7.16.21

Writing your wedding vows can seem like an easy task to some, but others struggle putting words from the heart on paper. We are here to ease the process, so you can promise your future spouse everything you always wanted to. Writing your own wedding vows should be a fun process and you will create memories that you will cherish for a lifetime. There are thousands of different pre-written vows online to give you inspiration, and we also have a list of questions that will help you come up with your own inspiration. No matter what it is always best to speak directly from the heart.

When writing your wedding wows be on the same page.

Make sure you and your fiancé have the same ideas.

Before you start writing personal vows, make sure you, your fiancé, and officiant are all on the same page. This way there will be no rocky roads ahead during the planning process. Talk about this early in the planning game so you can have extra time to edit or add to your vows. Some religions require you to have traditional wording, so it is important to speak with your officiant if you are having a religious ceremony. Be sure to set the tone of your personalized vows as well. Are you going to add a little bit of humor or keep it all serious? There is no right or wrong answer here, just be sure you agree on a tone of the ceremony.

Ask questions to get the inspiration flowing.

Get in your feels with this list of questions.

  1. What did you think when you first met your partner?
  2. When did you realize you were in love?
  3. When did you know you wanted to marry this person?
  4. What do you want to promise your partner?
  5. What characteristics does your partner have that made you want to marry them?
  6. What does marriage mean to you?
  7. What about your partner inspires you?
  8. Are there any quotes, poems, sayings, or parts of traditional vows that you might want to add?

Practice makes perfect.

Writing your wedding vows means you have to practice your performance.

Practice and practice a lot. Be sure to speak slow, add a couple of pauses in appropriate areas, and make sure you speak clear. You will want to speak clear and at a good pace, especially if you are hiring a videographer. This ensures your vows will be easily heard on your wedding video for years to come.

Practicing your wedding vows will also help you be less nervous when you speak in front of a crowd. You should also practice speaking in a microphone in you have never done so. Your officiant or DJ should be able to help you with this.

Write your wedding vows in a personalized book.

Write your vows in something you can keep forever.

Don’t ruin your moment by pulling out a wadded up piece of paper out of your pocket. You can buy a vow booklet for pretty cheap online. This means not only will you look elegant, this is something you can keep forever. They are generally smaller and you can give them to a member of your wedding party to hold until you are ready.
